MINUTES haben auf dem letzten Useless Fest diese 12-Inch veröffentlicht und sich zugleich als eine der nettesten Bands überhaupt entpuppt. Selten trifft man Typen, die man auf Anhieb ziemlich geil findet! Die Band kommt aus Düsseldorf und Mönchengladbach und veranstaltet dort selbst Konzerte und weiß was d.i.y. bedeutet.

Unabhängig davon, und mal wirklich jede Sympathie den Jungs gegenüber aussen vorgelassen, macht dieses 12-Inch Debüt so einiges her. Nicht nur optisch ist die Platte einen Kauf wer, da das Vinyl einseitig bespielt ist und auf der zweiten Seite einen goldenen Siebdruck hat. Musikalisch spielt man vertrackten Hardcore, der zwischen schnellen Bolzpassagen und langsamen, tragenden Rhythmen variiert. Micht begeistert dabei vor allem die Abwechslung der 6 Songs.

Auch live ist die Band äußerst sehenswert. Wer auf Hardcore ohne prolliges Rumgepose und nervige Mackeransagen steht, der zu dem eine Menge Energie mitbringt, kommt an MINUTES nicht vorbei.

The band Minutes doesn’t seem to have a keen wish to share too much information on their facebook page, which is actually quite hard to find. They’re from Mönchengladbach  and Düsseldorf and they play a kind of hardcore that probably will never make them stand out much. They’ve got a record out called Narrations About The God Of Dogs, which looks quite promising. 

The sound is pretty much oldschool, starting with a little bass loop, morphing into the explosion we are accustomed with when we hear traditional hardcore bands like Minor Threat. Add a bit of the whiny vocal style (this is mere taste) of Government Warning to that and you’ve got the jist of what’s going on with Minutes.

Opening track ‘Driving Bell’ definitely fits the description there. ‘I Am’ is a more blunt approach to the grooving hardcore sound, though never really landing it properly. The moments where you are supposed to punch the floor with a drop just never really do it for me as a listener. This makes the band sound messy and unnecesarily noisy. The same thing goes for the song ‘Gleaming Room’, where both vocalists really seem to be incompatible with the song Minutes are playing.

I can go on about the record in that way, but you might dig that unpolished sound with traces of punkrock naivety. To me songs like ‘Swallow Tailed Moth’ sound like that local band that they let open shows before anyone arrives at the venue (except their dads). However, the band does know a thing or two about constructing a song, they just really need to figure out how to make them sound right. ‘Chloride Lungs’ also shows that there is not really a clear direction where Minutes are heading. Maybe a few member changes and ideas further down the line and this band might really have something for us.

MINUTES - Narrations About The God Of Dogs (LP, Good Intentions Hardcore)
Der Preis für die schönste einseitig bespielte 12'' geht mit Getöse an Minutes aus dem Rheinland. Ein weißer Wolf ziert die eine unbespielte Seite der Platte. Das Cover der Narrations About The God Of Dogs passt gut zur düsteren Grundstimmung der EP. Von Anfang an macht sich eine geladene, zerbrechliche Grundstimmung breit, welche durch den Basseinsatz zu Beginn die Richtung aufzeigt und mitreißt. Die sechs Songs haben eine knackige Kürze, sind abwechslungsreich und eingängig und das trotz einer Vertracktheit, oder besser gesagt einer gewissen Sperrigkeit. Das ist kein Widerspruch sondern lässt das Gesamte weniger glatt erscheinen. Die paar Backupshouts geben dem ganzen die richtige Wucht. Minutes Debüt ist auch gleichzeitig das Debüt von Guidos (Stepdown, No Easy Run, Tausendsassa!) und Dans (Punch, Pressure & Ink Screenprinting) Label Good Intentions Hardcore und mit diesem Old School Brett ist ihm ein guter Wurf gelungen. Haltet euch ran, die Pressung in goldenem Siebdruck ist auf 50 und die in Weißem auf 250 Stück limitiert! Tolle Platte! dennisdegenerate
